Restorative Yoga + Sound Bath with Jennifer Overbury

This event features guided meditation and restorative yoga, followed by immersion in an extended healing energy sound bath with crystal singing bowls, brass bowls, and many other instruments.

We begin with a guided meditation/body scan to relax the body, then come into a few restorative poses, using yoga bolsters and other props for support and comfort. This will be accompanied by various relaxing sounds such as chimes or ocean drum.

Restorative yoga stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest) and cultivates deep relaxation. Students may recline comfortably to listen and feel the sounds and vibrations of Jennifer’s extended ‘soundwandering’ sound bath. Jennifer intends that this class will be healing to your body, mind, and spirit.

This event is open and accessible to all! No experience with yoga is needed, and everyone is welcome to participate in restorative yoga as much or as little as they are comfortable with.

Sound Bath with Tatiana Tremblay

Everyone has a vibration that is a signature of their health and well-being. Similar to a musical instrument that can fall out of tune through use, our bodies can also fall out of vibrational harmony and potentially develop illness. Stress and negativity create blockages of a healthy flow of energy in our bodies. Sound and vibration are used to re-tune us back to health and well-being. When there is relaxation through soothing, resonant sound, the body is affected on a cellular level, opening up the flow of energy to move us back toward vibrational alignment with health. Sound can help us clear chakras or energy centers in the body, help with insomnia, bring tranquility to the mind, relaxation and healing to our nervous system, and harmony to our physical, mental and etheric bodies. During a session, you only need to snuggle comfortably on your mat and allow the vibrations to "wash" over you.

Music is magic!

Please bring a pillow and a blanket for supreme comfort:)

Fun with Fascia: Floss© and Roll

Fun with Fascia: Floss© and Roll

In this workshop, we will explore two different methods for working with our fascia that are helpful in finding a greater sense of comfort throughout our body. We will begin with a fascial flossing© technique, in which we will engage muscles while stretching. This helps to reconfigure and hydrate fascia and brings balance to our bodily systems.

Then, using yoga therapy balls and rolling techniques along the entire body, we engage in a self-massage practice that further targets the fascia, breaking up adhesions and targeting tight spots. We will close our workshop with a guided relaxation.

What is Fascia?

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber, and muscle in place. The tissue does more than provide internal structure; fascia has nerves that make it almost as sensitive as skin. When stressed, it tightens up.

Although fascia looks like one sheet of tissue, it’s actually made up of multiple layers with liquid in between called hyaluronan. It’s designed to stretch as you move. But there are certain things that cause fascia to thicken and become sticky. When it dries up and tightens around muscles, it can limit mobility and cause painful knots to develop.

What can cause painful knots (adhesions) in our fascia?

  • A lifestyle of limited physical activity (too little movement day after day)

  • Repetitive movement that overworks one part of the body

  • Trauma, such as surgery or injury

Join us on January 3 for Fun with Fascia!

Time: 5:30-7:30 pm (closes with a guided relaxation exercise)

$75 includes therapy balls

$60 if you’re bringing your own therapy balls (Please use the code rollingin2024 when registering to take off $15)

Celebrate the Solstice

Celebrate the Solstice

Join us for our annual celebration of the winter solstice on Thursday, December 21, 4:00-5:30 PM.

For people throughout the ages, the winter solstice has been an occasion for ritual gathering, reflection, and renewal of our connection to the earth and to each other. The darkness of the winter solstice gives us an opportunity to pause from our activities, to listen, watch, and honor the slower, quieter rhythm of the season and prepare for the light which is to come.

Our winter solstice class will consist of gentle movements, restorative poses, guided relaxation, and meditation, with some seasonal poetry sprinkled throughout. Class will be held by candlelight.

Our celebration is intended to bring you warmth and light on the "darkest" day of the year.

Space is limited and registration closes one hour before the start of the event.

Thursday, December 21, 4:00-5:30 PM

Cost: $30

Gentle and Restorative Yoga with Sound Bath with Jennifer Overbury

This class features gentle and restorative yoga, followed by reclined immersion in an extended healing energy sound bath with crystal singing bowls and other instruments.

We begin with gentle seated stretches and movement, to loosen up and relax the body, preparing for the rest and sound bath. We’ll then come into a restorative pose, which stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest) and cultivates deep relaxation. Finally students recline comfortably to listen and feel the sounds and vibrations of Jennifer’s ‘soundwandering’ sound bath. Other yoga practices may visit us, such as guided mediations, body scans, and breathwork. Jennifer intends that this class be healing to your body, mind, and spirit.

We will focus on:

  • Practicing in a way that does not harm your body

  • Listening to your whole experience to make your practice your OWN

  • Using modifications and props

  • Engaging in the radical act of doing less

‘soundwandering’ sound baths: Allow yourself to wander through the immersive sounds Jennifer creates. Who knows what you will find? Sound baths are often very relaxing, and can sometimes even shake you up a little. Wandering involves letting go of agendas and goals, and instead simply experiencing the journey. You are invited to wander freely, riding the sounds where they will take you. It’s an adventure!

Please ask Jennifer about her private sessions for Reiki energy healing, vibrational therapy, and soundwandering sound baths (individual or small group).

Yoga as a Way of Life: Thriving in a Chaotic World with Sarah Guglielmi MS E-RYT500 C-IAYT

Millions of Americans practice yoga. They understand yoga to be an ancient practice that combines postures and breath awareness to relieve stress, reduce aches and pains, and transform their mood. Yoga is that, and much more. Yoga postures, called asanas, are one part of an 8-limbed spiritual discipline that is ultimately designed to help you reach your fullest potential. Yoga offers a path to connect with your intuitive self and gradually transform your limitations, including the overwhelming fear and uncertainty that is pervasive at this time. Yoga offers an approach to not only live in a chaotic world but to thrive in it. Join Sarah for this discussion on yoga as a way of life through yoga practice, yoga lifestyle, and the cultivation of a yoga mindset.
